Guest Post: Victor Enrique Puertas: SUPPORT ERICK!! FREE ERICK!! APOYEMOS A ERICK!! LIBEREMOS A ERICK!!

Erick Jonathan Reyes is having his court hearing this coming Wednesday. As an undocumented, disabled person he needs all the support possible. Our presence at the courthouse this day will bring attention to his case, to his needs in order that they are recognized and he can get the treatment he needs, and to have the U-Visa to stay in this country, he should being having the medication he needs and he need hospitalization not incarceration.

Quiet, shy and a loving brother to his sisters, devoted to his mother, he has a mental condition called psychosis, negative/ schizophrenia. Without medication he is vulnerable and defenseless. He is confused and feels threatened. Erick is been held at the Spanish Fork Immigrant Detention Center lacking the medical attention to keep him stable. There was no reason for his detention since he was just waiting on a U-visa approval. He could have been held in a mental institution, but he continues to be held in a place where none of his medical needs are being met.

Without his medication Erick is unstable. Many times he reacts with anger to his fears and his condition is getting worse. He has being held in solitary confinement for over three months with no visitation from his family. His confusion has taken its toll and he is now being held on other charges related to his anxiety and lack of medical attention.

Erick was born in Mexico City and was brought to the US at a very early age. He and his family were the target of a crime in Mexico and he escaped with his mother and sisters in 1999. English is the only language he knows.

Erick needs to be transferred to a mental institution where he can receive proper medical attention and treatment for his mental illness.

Erick wants to come home to his baby niece, who is now 3 years old and is growing without her "Joni" as she called him. It would break your heart to see how she prays to a "San Juditas de Tadeo" statue she has in her room for his safe return home.
